Break free from the traditional Hero’s Journey and discover a narrative framework that mirrors your story, and the stories you want to tell on screen.
Date: March 7th
Time: 19:00
Room: Streamed online only
Rooted in the Relational Heroine’s Journey, this session will help you move beyond inherited ideas of who you must be to write. You’ll peer under the hood of your story, interrogate what no longer holds, and rebuild the scaffolding of self and narrative.
You will:
Explore a contemporary relational narrative framework and how it shapes character arcs and story structure
Discover the narrative beats of this contemporary story structure
Understand the differences between linear and non-linear storytelling
See the key differences between the Hero’s Journey and the Emergent Heroine framework
Reflect on how gender, perspective, and relational dynamics impact story and character development
Receive practical tips, questions, and prompts to apply immediately to your scripts and projects
Why this work matters
Because we can only meet our stories—or lead others—to the depth of personal work we have done ourselves
Because the world needs changemakers (you)
Because the hero of old is battered, isolated, and spent
Because the stats are in: analysis of 100 top-grossing films from 2025 reveals how dismal the year was for women directors
Whether you’re developing a screenplay, directing, or deep into a film project, the Emergent Heroine offers a richer, more contemporary path into narrative depth, mythic resonance, and original storytelling. It’s inclusive, relevant, and designed for any protagonist—you don’t need a female lead to benefit.
By the end of the session, you’ll take away beginner-friendly tools to start transforming your story, characters, and creative approach straight away.
