Addy Farmer // Children’s Author and Screenwriter

Addy Farmer is a versatile children’s writer whose work spans books, stage adaptations, and screen projects.

Her publishing credits include works with Walker, Random House, and Hachette, where her latest series explores ecological themes through children’s fascination with ‘icky’ subjects. Her picture books “A Bagful of Stars” and “A Place Called Home” have been adapted for stage by Rhubarb Theatre, demonstrating her stories’ adaptability across mediums.

A significant achievement includes her crowdfunded children’s book about parental suicide loss, created in association with Child Bereavement UK, which was later animated and featured at the Disrupt Festival 2022.

Her writing achievements include winning the Hachette Writing North prize for “The Empty Girl,” and notable nominations for “The Dangerous Dead” and “Wilfreda and the Werecat.” Beyond fiction, she has ventured into narrative nonfiction, crafting accessible stories about complex subjects for young readers. Currently, Farmer is expanding into television, co-writing two spec scripts: “The Hearties,” an animation for children, and “Community Farm,” an adult comedy series.

As a founding member of SCWBI in the UK and trustee for North Lincolnshire Children’s Literacy Trust, she continues to contribute to children’s literary development and is a graduate of the LSF Talent Campus 8.0 screenwriting course.
