Philip Shelley // Script Development Executive and Producer

Philip Shelley has spent three decades shaping British television through script development and writer mentorship.

As leader of the prestigious Channel 4 screenwriting course since 2010, he has helped launch the careers of many of the UK’s most successful screenwriters, including Charlie Covell, Nida Manzoor, and Vinay Patel. His extensive script editing credits include iconic British series like “Inspector Morse,” “Waking The Dead,” and “Kavanagh QC.”

As a producer, his work has garnered international recognition, with “First Sign of Madness” winning awards at festivals in New York, Houston, and Columbus. During his seven-year tenure as head of development for Carlton TV Drama, where he also ran the Carlton New Writers Course, Shelley demonstrated his commitment to nurturing new talent. His influence extends across the industry through his work with major institutions including BBC Studios, ITV Studios, Screen Ireland, and Northern Ireland Screen.

Currently running his own script consultancy, Shelley continues to work with writers at all levels while also serving as the director of the Greenlight Screenwriting Lab for emerging Irish writers.
